Late last year, Roeselare-based property developer Hexagon and cast flooring specialist Liquidfloors bought the former Sobelcard-Bekaert site in the Bekaertstraat in Zwevegem.
Sobelcard, part of the Bekaert group, relocated a large part of its production, leaving the Bekaertstraat site vacant. At this strategic location, it quickly became clear that this business park deserved a new challenge.
The Bekaertstraat was already home to Liquidfloors, and when the site came up for sale, they found in Hexagon the perfect partner to take on the redevelopment together. The cast floor specialist from Zwevegem wants to build its new headquarters there, reinforced with an experience centre. Around the new headquarters, the 'APART' business park will be developed, providing housing for 25 ambitious SMEs from the region.
For this reconversion, the Flemish Government gave their approval in principle to the draft brownfield covenant. Such an agreement motivates real estate developers to transform hard-to-develop sites, so-called brownfields, into new inspiring places for living and working. This redevelopment breathes new economic life into the neighbourhood, creates new jobs and increases social cohesion.
The partners are fully prepared for this challenge. Reconversion of such sites is Hexagon's speciality and is fully in line with their philosophy of sustainable and socially responsible construction and business.
Completion is scheduled for summer 2022.
